Let’s dive in.

The History of the Craftsman-Style Home

Craftsman-style homes are a North American architectural tradition that became popular between 1900 to 1929. These homes emphasize horizontal lines, showcasing natural materials, like woods, really highlighting craftsmanship. You’ll see details like shingles, etched doors, wood-framed windows, columns and front porches.

There are four different types of craftsman-style homes, including Prairie, Mission, Four-Square, and Bungalow. The latter is the classic style you probably recognize when you walk down your favourite residential East Vancouver street. They’re often made of wood or stone and have broad roofs.

The Interior Details

When you walk into one of these homes, you’ll notice open floor plans. There is often a variety of built-in spaces, such as bookshelves, cabinetry, nooks, desks, and window seats. Fireplaces also take the stage in these homes, often the focal point of the living and even dining space.

The Modern Craftsman-Style Home

While they originated over 100 years ago, modern craftsman-style homes are having a moment in real estate development. The more updated version is characterized by clean lines, bringing back some of those original design features such as tapered columns, large front porches, and gabled roofs. And this is what’s so great about this type of home. It will truly never go out of style as it’s a historic design.

Saint is revolutionizing the craftsman-style home by creating multi-unit developments that retain the style’s original beauty. Nestled within welcoming communities, we just might have your next home. Register on our sales page to be the first to know about all our upcoming projects.
