Saint’s New Office Brings Residential Spaces to Slocan

It’s always fun when a business gets to be its own client, and we at Saint are going through that process right now as we finalize the design to our new office location on Slocan Street in East Vancouver.

Slocan
Commercial Spaces to the Slocan

For this project, we’re working with one of our favourite teams Evoke International Design, a design firm that incorporates conceptual thinking, spatial and interior design and graphic design into its environments. They bring branded experiences to the next level.

Our designers over at Evoke dove into what makes their project with us so unique and special to the East Vancouver area.

Grab a cup of coffee and settle in for our interview.

Q. What got you excited about working with Saint on this multi-use (commercial and residential) space?

Evoke: It’s the location that really got us interested. It’s so central to transit, bike paths, and neighbourhoods parks, but also offers incredible city views we just knew we had to take advantage of.

Q. Can you give us some insight into the overall vision and design for this building?

Evoke: This space is really cool because Saint wanted to combine residential for a variety of family demographics with the commercial space, which lives into their values of making homes more accessible.

The ground floor office space of this building will contribute to the current commercial development of the Slocan neighbourhood, while the homes are designed with a variety of families in mind. Each townhouse unit has its own entrance off East 27th and a large private outdoor space that really expands these homes beyond the traditional condo feel.

The heavy slope of the building site creates amazing unobstructed views of the city and the North Shore. We took this inspiration and designed the two and three-bedroom unit layouts around these views, using them as our focal point.

Q. Let’s keep the inspiration coming. Where did you get most of your inspiration for this project?

Evoke: We wanted to design an iconic modernist building that really took advantage of its corner location and high exposure. A building that has presence while still being really intentional. We used brick and wood materials to express the modern form that also nods to a warm, residential palette, allowing this building to really connect with the residential neighbourhood that surrounds it.
