How Self-Spaces are Quickly Becoming the Top Design Trend of 2022

Self-spaces, spaces dedicated to self-care, are quickly becoming the main driver in home design. A place often dedicated to wellness or hobbies, this trend points to the continued important role homes have in our lives.

Kalu Interiors, the lead Interior Design firm on one of our upcoming projects, is giving us the scoop on some of the top design trends of 2022, as well as how ‘self-spaces’ can be incorporated into home design.

Interior Design Trends Set To Be Huge in 2022

Wondering what design trends you could be including in your home? Wonder no more. Kalu Interiors is seeing these five trends really hit a stride this year:

Mixed Metals: Mixing elements, such as black and touches of gold with silvers of chrome and stainless steel, has to be one of Kalu’s favourite trends. They find it gives the space a slightly more eclectic and lived-in vibe to have multiple finishes working together.

Spa-Inspired Bathrooms: Features such as body sprays and steam showers continue to be a very popular ask, along with rain showerheads for a luxurious showering experience.

Rounded Features: Rounded corners and arches are a trend Kalu loves. It adds a more romantic feel to the space, especially when used as a feature archway to make a simpler space much more special.

Returning to Traditional Elements: Wood colours, marbles, and natural textures are continuing to be seen this year, making homes feel warm and inviting.

Multi-Use Spaces: Ever since the pandemic, the trend of multi-use spaces hasn’t gone away, and Kalu doesn’t see it disappearing anytime soon. This trend is at the forefront of many people’s minds as the work-from-home life becomes a permanent thing for many.

‘Self-Spaces’ Are The Main Driver of Home Renovations

More and more people are creating spaces in their homes that are dedicated to self-care, and Kalu is here for it. “We think that having a dedicated space forces people to slow down a bit and to pay some attention to themselves, which is so important,” they said.

The most unique ‘self-space’ they’ve seen to date? “A room dedicated to massages.”
