Explore Commercial Drive
/The great thing about Vancouver is the varying vibe that each hub has to offer. We love East Vancouver for its restaurant scene, city parks, and growing multi-family homes.
A culturally rich neighbourhood, Commercial Drive, also known as The Drive, and is one of the most vibrant districts you’ll find in Vancouver. The Drive offers 22 full blocks to explore with over 300 distinct merchants, including boutiques, restaurants, live music and bars, theatres, coffee houses, specialty food stores and bakeries. Let’s take a tour!
Easily Accessible
What makes the Commercial Drive area so desirable for young couples and families is the Commercial-Broadway Skytrain stop. This stop gives you access to two different Skytrain lines and is along a major bus route, so you can be anywhere in Vancouver or even head out to Burnaby and Surrey with no problem.
Eat Your Heart Out
Commercial Drive is an amazing neighbourhood for bars and restaurants. The sheer diversity available means you’ll never run out of new tastes to try. Because the area is home to Little Italy, you’ll find Italian influences in the various coffee shops and restaurants throughout, like Via Tevere Pizzeria and LIVIA Forno e Vino.
But it doesn’t stop there. If you’re looking for a pre or post-dinner drink, you’ll find various tap houses, such as St. Augustine’s, where there’s sure to be a beer to please everyone.
Spend the Day Outside
At the south end of the neighbourhood is John Hendry Park, which surrounds Trout Lake. On Saturdays from May through to October, the park is home to an excellent farmer’s market. You can also take a walk up to Grandview Park, which is famous for its drum circles or head on up to the tennis courts at McSpadeen Park.
Whether you’re spending the day with friends or taking the kids out for some fun in the sun, there’s no shortage of outdoor spaces to play or have an afternoon picnic.
All Your Necessities
If you prefer to skip the grocery store chains, then Commercial Drive is perfect for you, as it’s home to many local produce markets and bakeries. If you’re wanting convenience, you can head to Choices Markets or Safeway and grab all your grocery needs.
You’ll also find independent and BC Liquor Stores close by!
And if you’re kids are school age, there are plenty of options in the neighbourhood, including Britannia Secondary School, Tyee Elementary School, and Templeton Secondary School. You’ll never have to leave the area to get what you need.
