Self-contained, flexible “home-within-a-home” for downsizers who wanted to participate in a multi-generational lifestyle while retaining independence/privacy when desired. Creating a separate, fully self-contained dwelling connected to the existing house met the challenge of providing integrated living with the requisite options for inclusivity and exclusivity.
Inspired by the industrial look of stacked containers, the addition’s façade was intentionally designed to be more contemporary than the main home’s mid-century modern architecture, thus clearly differentiating the two spaces. Barrier-free access to patio and upper deck expands living space and connects clients to the natural surrounding/forest.
